I'm sure most of you have seen Salvation Army Christmas kettles around your local shopping malls, grocery stores, and community meeting places over the past few weeks.
I'm writing to ask you to consider dropping in a dollar or two.
The S.A. Christmas kettle comes out of a great traditon, and goes toward supporting programs like after-school and community center programs.
So dig deep and don't pass the pot this Christmas season.

hmm, I agree giving is a great thing for the Salvation Army at kettle season, but what about the slogan Doing the most good?
Understandably and unfortunately, this slogan can easily be misinterpreted as an act of self-promotion. However, I don't think this how this campaign was intended to be interpreted.
I think that what it actually is trying to accomplish is the idea that The Salvation Army desires to go where the harshest suffering is - because that is where the most good can be done.
However, with the blink of an eye, the title can be read according to a radically alternative signification. I think this is unfortunate, but not intentional.
Regardless of PR campaigns, I have seen with my own eyes the work which is made possible through funds raised during the Christmas season. Kids who have Christmas gifts, and safe places to go to after-school, families who are given refuge after hurricanes, and a caring individual willing to listen to someone who desperately wants to be heard.
This - I will celebrate - and gladly support.
for those who have "the inside scoop" i also understand the idea that it wasnt meant to be interpreted that way.....BUT.....The Salvation Army wasnt intended to be an internal movement and unfortunatley, many people that NEED to be saved do NOT have this "inside scoop" and may see it as concieded and snotty and worst of all, another indication of what many associate Evangelicals' with-- greed, and the tendency to line their own pockets.
